I went to the Dallas Arboretum! It’s so good! There was a maze with dragons and different riddles and clues. They will tell you something to look for through the telescopes. One of them said to look for a mouth, which turned out to be dragons, which were refreshing because they sprayed mist.
We signed up for a homeschool class, which was about pollinators. I got to choose whether to be a bee, a butterfly, or a flower. I chose a bee. What we did as a bee was we went around collecting pollen from the flowers, and the nectar. We brought it back to the hive.
There was also a place where I could build a dam and there was sand to build it with. I pressed a button and either a raincloud rained down, or a faucet that was supposed to represent a river started flowing. Then my dam eventually got washed away.
We went to a science class about mushrooms. Mushrooms are not plants or animals; they fit in the fungi category. They get sunburns like humans, but have roots like plants. Their roots have little mouths in them for eating the food that comes along for them in the soil. I got to look at parts of a mushroom under the microscope. Oh, by the the way, as you’re reading this, if you have a mushroom in front of you, you’re breathing in thousands of baby mushrooms.
There’s a Wizard of Oz area with a yellow brick road. There was a little maze there, too, but it was made for little kids. There were flying monkeys overhead and the buildings were covered with pumpkins.
I want to go here again! It’s the best arboretum I’ve ever been to! We saw less than half of the children’s garden and there was an Archimedes screw that I want to play with next time we go.
