We went to Red Rock State Park. That is in Arizona. It is really good. You start by going down a hill on a dirt trail. There’s some rock steps and there’s a bench along the path. It goes down to where a bridge is. Then you go a little way and then there’s another bridge. They’re both terrifying. Well, they’re somewhat terrifying. I was terrified because there’s water rushing and I felt like I was going to fall off. One of the rivers is more calm than the other. There’s no hand rails, just the planks like you see here.
After the bridges, you go up a slope and there’s a little platform over a washed out area, then you keep going up a hill. It is beautiful. The path just keeps going in zig-zags. There’s lots of flowers. You’re looking at a bunch of giant, red rock mountains. They’re so beautiful.
The trail is called Eagle’s Nest. It’s called that because it goes way up until you reach the top. Then there’s two benches and a platform – not made of wood, but of dirt. It’s good not to throw rocks down because there’s people down below and you might hurt or kill someone if it falls on the person’s head. We watched a lot, had a snack, and drank some water. The view is the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
Then we went back on the trail. It goes down on the other side. It’s a loop trail, so we just kept going down, and it zig-zagged again. It kept going down until we came to a turn when we were at the bottom of the mountain. It was as pretty as the way up. We came across a viewing area to see animals, although we didn’t see any when I was there. Then we came back to the two bridges. We went across them again. It’s really pretty down there. We went back up past the bench again and finished the trail. It starts in the parking area.
There was a bridge that was washed out, but it wasn’t on our trail. The museum had rock layers as you see here. It had the names written down and some stuff about it. There is Junior Ranger there. I did it and got the badge. The badge has a raccoon and nature on it. There was a movie about the place’s history and what there is to do now.
There are bathrooms. You don’t get in free unless you have a national park pass or a state park pass.
I love the hike! I think it would be good for people who really love hikes, because it’s quite a hike!
